BPC/GSUM has two open positions for visiting fellows, one of which will be offered exclusively to South American citizens residing in the region. This year the program will take place from June 29th to July 29th. Those selected are expected to conduct research, teach, and debate on topics related to conflict resolution and mediation processes at BRICS Policy Center and GSUM Winter School. BRICS Policy Center, of the Institute of International Relations (IRI/PUC-Rio), is among the selected by the notice “BRICS Network University (BRICS NU), released by the Ministry of Education (MEC) and Capes. 12 proposals have been selected in the areas of Computer Science and Information Security; Ecology and Climate Change; Economics; Energy; BRICS Studies; and Water Management and Treatment of Pollution. All chosen are top rated programs, linked to institutions of higher education with programs recommended by Capes that have been rated a 6 or 7 in relation to the thematic areas of the notice. MEDIATING INTERNATIONAL CONFLICTS: CHALLENGES and OPPORTUNITIES, BY JOSE PASCAL DA ROCHA - In this paper Pascal questions not only what makes a successful mediation, but also which methodological paths could enhance quantitative studies already put forth in the field. After he briefly delineates his choice of conceptual and theoretical language, the author analyzes four empirical cases – Guatemala (1996); Tajikistan (1997); the Democratic Republic of Congo (1999); and Sudan (2006). Besides exploring the historical context of each case, the pre-negotiation phase and the actual negotiations, the paper offers a few specific conclusions. "DEFINING, MEASURING AND REPORTING SOUTH-SOUTH COOPERATION: ACCOUNTING GRANTS, DEBT, TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AND IN-KIND SUPPORT BETWEEN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES" - On the 17-18 of December 2015, BPC were present in an event organized by Network of Southern Think Tanks (NeST) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
