RECOMMENDATIONS FOR TWO VIOLENCE-REDUCING POLICING PROGRAMS IN BRAZIL
In this Policy Brief, the former BPC fellow, Marta-Laura Suska, argues that successful public security depends on three factors: political backing, police commitment, and community cooperation. To strengthen these variables, policymakers need to institutionalize and formalize state security programs, invest in and improve child protection, and drastically improve work conditions for public security agents.

RIGHT TO THE CITY FOR A SAFE AND JUST WORLD: THE CASE OF THE BRICS
The BRICS Policy Center, under the BRICS-Urbe and in partnership with Oxfam, has organized this publication. Its aim is to articulate the notion of the right to the city with the Oxfam model for a just and safe humanity. Over six chapters, the reader will find theoretical and empirical information about the right to the city as a key concept for the design of public and private urban policies able to make our world a more safe and just space.

Global South Unit for Mediation Winter School
From July 13th to July 24th, 2015, the Global South Unit for Mediation (GSUM) successfully held the second edition of its Winter School. After having received applications from more than 20 countries, the school welcomed 29 students from diverse professional and academic backgrounds for a two-week intensive learning and training experience in the theory and practice of international mediation.
THE BRICS POLICY CENTER AND OXFAM CONTINUE PARTNERSHIP THROUGH NEW PROJECT

The BRICS Policy Center welcomes three fellows in 2015
The BPC welcomes 3 fellows this year:: Mabel González Bustelo, Jose Pascal da Rocha, e Raslan Ibrahim. The visiting professors will stay in Rio for two months, during which they will contribute in several activities and research projects of the Global South Unit for Mediation (GSUM).

BPC IN RUSSIA
Between 29th June and 01st July, Monica Herz, Sérgio Veloso and Lia Lopes represented the BPC in the Civic BRICS Forum, that ocurred in Ufa, Russia.Yet, between 01st and 07th July, the BRICS Policy Center’s researcher, Sergio Veloso, attended the BRICS Youth Forum, organized by the Russian Government in Kazan, capital city of Tatarstan.
